Madeleine McCann face made international headlines after it was reported missing from home family holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal on 3 May 2007. According to the Telegraph, McCann was last seen safe in bed when his parents and his friends is marked that night.
However, Madeleine was reported missing shortly after 22:00 when her mother went to her room and found that the child was not there.
The ensuing investigation, which lasted years, aimed at Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann as suspects, as well as a series of “mystery men” who claim having seen carrying a child fits the description of Madeleine eyewitnesses.
One theory supposedly by Portuguese police said: “Madeleine had died from their parents by accident, possibly, if given an overdose of sedative to make your dream, who had hidden the body, he faked his kidnapping and then the rental car used weeks after moving his body to a burial site, “reports the Telegraph.
However, in 2008, the McCann were cleared as suspects.
According to the Daily Mail, the researcher Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said that nine years after the disappearance of Madeleine, the case may be coming to an end. However, Hogan-Howe states that, “There is a line of research that has not yet been completed and is expected in the coming months will happen.”
In March 2016, the case of Madeleine took a strange turn when an ad taken out in a Paraguayan newspaper said that Madeleine had been seen in Paraguay, rekindling rumors that the child was still alive. However, Mirror reports that this theory has been discredited.
Meanwhile, the McCanns continue their relentless search for Madeleine. His official Facebook page, dedicated to finding “Maddie”, asks users not to give up hope that the child is still alive.
May 12, 2016 marked what would have been 13th birthday Madeleine.
